I love fall for so many reasons: boots, cozy sweaters, fitted jackets, apple picking, pumpkin patches, Halloween and of course, football season. Trust me, I don’t know everything about football, but I love the traditions football brings. My boyfriend and I love to cook on football Sunday, we end up making so much food sometimes that we have dinners for the week, which is an added bonus. We have also stumbled across some amazing appetizers and entertaining dishes. We kicked the first Sunday of the season off with Jambalaya. This is one of Brian’s specialties, he basis his recipe off of this Emril recipe. We included only what we already had, so we didn’t use the shrimp. For the remainder of the season, I will be including our football Sunday recipes. Hopefully, this will give you ideas for entertaining, or just help you create your own traditions.
Tip: Add the andouille sausage in before you add the rice and let it cook for a few minutes so you give the oils time to release. This way the juices will infuse the rice once you had it in. Making the dish that much more flavorful. Remember, there is no such thing as an exact recipe, so don’t be afraid to experiment with the spices and ingredients. For example, we love our Jambalaya really meaty, so we always add more than the recipe calls for. Also, for a nice cool taste, add a small amount of sour cream on top as a garnish, it is so delicious. Whatever you end up doing, have fun with it!
